RARE FIND: note description below; The mayapple flower pictured above is on a stem of its own NO LEAVES and the flower has 8 petals not 6. This is one of natures misfits. I don't know if it will make fruit with out the support of leaves but I will keep a watch out to see. Found on: 05/06/2001 along stony creek in Hardy county, Virginia.Description: From 8 to 18 inches tall. Leaves are large and umbrella like, the center of leaf shows a
5 ray star. Flowering stems have 2 leaves with the flower between, flowers have 6 petals. The ripe fruits are edible, but unripe fruits and the rest of the plant are poisonous if eaten. Under ground parts also cause skin irritation. Used as medicineLocation: Moist woods, roadsides
