Description: From 2 to 6 inches tall. Leaves are in pairs with the upper leaves stalk less and the lower stalked. Staying green all winter. Flowers vary from blue to almost white H. patens is similar with flowers darker with a darker center. Note the square shape of the unopened flower bud to the lower right. Lower left depicts the dense clump of flowers.Location: Open woods, stream sides and fields.
